First Graders Study the Water Cycle

by Becky Hall & Yvonne Meyer

The cloudy, rainy days of April  worked well into the first grade lessons on the water cycle .  Books on rain and weather were read and enjoyed by all!  Many stories were told about first graders personal experiences with the weather. Students wrote about their favorite kind of weather.

We learned the vocabulary of the water cycle.  Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection were challenge words as the students learned the cycle of water. Students experimented with rain cans, static electricity and watched a video on all kinds of weather.  Weekly Readers included the study of wind and rain as well.
