Title I
Welcome to a New School Year!
September 07, 2009
My name is Jenny Janssen and I am happy to be returning to District OR-1 as the Title I teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. It is great to be back in this familiar, positive, and progressive school district. Read on to learn more about me, my family, my teaching philosophy and some changes within the Title I program
All About Me
I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December 2005 with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, I married my husband, Barry and resided in Pierce, NE. I started my professional career as a substitute teacher in Pierce and surrounding communities. After a semester of substituting, I accepted my first full-time teaching position as a fourth grade teacher at Skyline Elementary in Elkhorn, NE. My husband and I lived in Gretna during my two years of teaching fourth grade at Skyline. On July 17, 2007 our son, Will, was born and my husband and I have greatly enjoyed the wonderful, and sometimes scary, transition into parenthood.
Although I loved teaching fourth grade and had only wonderful experiences in Elkhorn my family and I decided to return to this area of Nebraska. I am very familiar with District OR-1. Barry and I both lived around and attended school in Syracuse, NE. We love the rural communities of Southeast Nebraska so moved back to Syracuse in May 2008. Barry works at Farm Credit Services of NE in Omaha, but is becoming more and more involved with the family farm.
Will is now 2 years old and is a very active and happy little boy.
He loves animals, being outside, and playing any kind of sport. Will and I spent the summer going to the zoo, swimming at the pool, and playing in the backyard at home. Will came to school with me to "help" me get ready for the year. He could not have been more impressed with the "park" (playground) and was totally content reading all the books in my room. Will is adjusting to the idea of becoming a big brother. A new year brings so many new changes. In early February Barry, Will, and I are looking forward to welcoming a new member to our family. My philosophy
My teaching philosophy is to provide my students with the highest quality of instruction. I believe in teaching students with the individual in mind. Learning should be active, fun, engaging, and exciting. I will strive to provide lessons and activities to reinforce and extend the understanding of each child.
I believe open communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff is key to ensuring the success of all students. It is my pleasure to discuss any questions, concerns, and ideas you have about school, the Title I program, or your child.
Title I Information
As in the past, Title I students receive extra support in the areas of reading and/or math from myself and the other members of the Title I staff. (Mrs. Carol Nisely is the Title I para-educator.) We, the Title I staff, strive to provide the best support while utilizing the students’, teachers’, and our time most effectively. Collaboration amongst the classroom teachers and the Title staff greatly increases the growth and success of the students. Above all, Title I staff members work hard to be yet another positive and helpful support person in every child’s eyes.
The Title I program purchased a new reading program to benefit our reading students. Read Naturally is a name many of you will become more familiar with. Notes will be sent home as your child begins participating in this research-based reading intervention program.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions and/or comments. I am looking forward to continually meeting and working with more wonderful families of Bennet!
