The Strongest One

Who is the strongest one? Little Red Ant sets out in the big world to learn about being strong. Second grade students studied the play The Strongest One from Pushing Up the Sky a traditional Abenaki Indian story. The author, Joseph Bruchac, explains that there is a story connected to almost every bird, animal, and plant. One message in many of these Native American stories is that all parts of nature are important. Even tiny ants can make a difference.

Students in Mrs. Christensen’s and Mrs. Schauer’s classes practiced the play and presented it as a readers theater for each other. The production was video taped and then the children had the opportunity to watch their performances.

Watch our slide show as Little Red Ant encounters many creatures to discover who the strongest one really is. Strongest One
