Using dice seems to add an element of fun to our math time. The students are learning their multiplication facts in a fun, new way. We have played several different multiplication games this past month using dice. The students find it a fun way to practice their facts. They are provided an opportunity to visualize multiplication in their world and develop strategies for recalling multiplication facts. Students need daily repetition and practice to help them commit the multiplication facts to memory. Children love short cuts. Why walk around a puddle when you can walk right through it? After all, what is multiplication except a shortcut for addition. Despite its attractions, many students remain intimidated by multiplication. By using different games to teach the concept kids ease into it. It makes learning the facts fun, practical, and painless.
