Palmyra Youth Wrestling Meet Draws in Large Crowd

by Julie Baasch

February 12, 2010

The annual Panther youth wrestling tournament was held again on February 6th 2010, at the Palmyra high school gym.  Over 430 wrestlers competed in the meet and traveled from all over the state.  Every year the competition draws in over 1500 parents, coaches and wrestlers, and the event raises money for many different groups.  The Panther wrestling club will donate a large portion of the tournament proceeds to the school to help pay for another set of new wrestling mats.  This will allow for the nice lightweight mats to be available in both the high school gym and the Bennet elementary gym. Another group that earned a significant amount of money was the Palmyra post prom parents.  This group did an amazing job keeping the concession stand stocked and the proceeds will go to support the activities planned for the Palmyra Jr./Sr. post prom on April 10th.  The Panther wrestling club would like to thank all of the people that helped make the tournament a success; especially the wrestling club parents, the high school wrestling team members and coaches, the junior class parents, the janitors, and especially the administrators for letting us use the facilities at Palmyra.  We couldn't do it without you.
