Science Fun
Ask a question…..Make a hypothesis…..Conduct an experiment….Record the data…Draw a conclusion….What are we talking about in 3rd grade science? The Scientific Method!
This week the 3rd graders performed an experiment going through all of the steps of the scientific method. The question they asked was, “How many drops of water can fit on one penny?” Each student then made his or her own hypothesis before doing the experiment. We did 3 different trials and then took an average for each student’s results. At the end of the experiment we shared our results and discussed why the numbers of drops were different for each student. We decided there were several different factors that may have played a part including the pressure you squeezed the dropper, how big or small you made the drops, if the penny was clean and shiny or dirty, and the students gave several other responses. Overall, the students enjoyed this fun learning experience.
