Teachers Meet Authors at Festival
| Two Bennet Elementary
teachers joined over 300 of their peers on Saturday at the Plum
Creek Children’s Literacy Festival in Seward. Becky Hall and Lois
Linke listened to authors and illustrators as they inspired and
entertained listeners with their stories of how they research,
plan, write, draw, revise, and publish their writings. Featured authors represented a variety of genres. Hans Wilhelm and Bo Willems write and illustrate picture books. Joan Bauer writes young adult novels; Gail Gibbons writes and illustrates nonfiction books; Cynthia DeFelice writes both novels and picture books; and Mike Graf authors modern fiction. Festival attendees have the opportunity to buy books and get author’s autographs. It’s fun to bring these books back to school to show our students and share the authors’ comments about their personal lives, and the challenges they face during the writing process. This helps students see authors as real people and encourages them to persevere through similar writing struggles and challenges. |
