March 29th, Palmyra FFA officers conducted Ag Awareness Day at the Bennet Elementary. The FFA wanted the elementary students to know the importance of agriculture in their lives and provide curriculum materials to the elementary that could be used during the school year.
Four foot tall Ag barns were built by the members as the center piece of the presentation and to store curriculum materials. FFA members contacted 55 State organizations and local businesses to collect items and information that could be given to students and placed in the Ag Barns.
The FFA officers presented a skit to each classroom about where the products for pizza come from, conducted classroom activities on agriculture terms and had animals in the foyer for the students to learn facts and ask questions. Each class and their teachers were then shown the items and curriculum articles in the Ag barns that could be used in their classrooms during the school year. The Ag Barn will be kept in the school library so each class can check it out and roll it to their classroom to use for their own agriculture activities.
It was a great learning and interactive experience for the FFA members and the elementary students. A great big Thank You goes to the organizations and businesses for providing the materials to the FFA for use in the presentation and curriculum that the elementary teachers can use.
