The Winter Blues

by Ryan Pollock

Yes…here we are in the midst of a long and agonizingly cold winter this year, but Spring is just a short time away.  I simply wanted to give you all some insight that 3rd quarter is historically one of the most challenging times for students during a school year. I and others believe the reason is twofold.  First, the material does become more intense as ideas focused on during 1st semester are merged into new complex problems.  Secondly, environmental factors are a reality.  It is that time of year when we adults and especially our students start to feel ‘bla’ with the cold grey days that seem to linger on this winter.

Below are some links with articles that will relate to coping with and even ideas to help get over the winter blues or what is commonly known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Let me know if your child has concerns that I or the school counselors can help with!  The good news is Spring gives new hope and it is right around the corner…well, actually it’s around the corner, down the hall, second door on the right, and it can’t get here fast enough!

Mr. Pollock

“The nicest thing about the promise of spring is that sooner or later she’ll have to keep it.”
