Grammar Their Way
There are other ways to learn that boring stuff.
Several years ago a student teacher helped our students create songs to aide in remembering irregular preterit forms in Spanish. The students laughed, enjoyed it, and used the songs through the year as well as through Spanish IV to help one another remember these often confusing forms. Again this year, we completed the same task, giving each couple 10 minutes and taping the audio the next class period (taking less than a minute because we are computer technology experts now - ha!). We viewed these and spent the first 5 minutes of three class periods teaching their songs to a different partner. Some songs and rhythms seem to really help and remain caught up in out long-term memories - Yeah! I have even heard a few singing them to complete assignments and compete in games this week.
