Read Across America Celebration

Family Read-athon Part of Week Long Activities

by Pam Goodrich

March 06, 2010

Bennet Elementary students enjoyed a week of special events to celebrate Read Across America. Daily Dr. Seuss trivia, "Green Eggs and Ham" breakfast sandwiches, and a tasty "Cat in the Hat" cake were just a few of the attractions.  Tuesday, March 2, the official celebration of Read Across America, was filled with guest readers throughout the school.

Each classroom welcomed at least one special reader during the day.  The fun continued into the evening as the OR1 Boosters provided a free will donation spaghetti supper, and time was provided for students to read with their families and take Accelerated Reader tests. The library provided a special display of Dr. Seuss books, and many staff members were available to offer assistance with AR tests. It was a fun way to celebrate the power of reading.
