Who is the strongest one?

2nd Grade

Mrs. Wusk, Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Schauer

The second graders recently read a play in our reading series called, “The Strongest One”.  It’s about a curious little red ant who wants to find out who is the strongest of all.  He goes out in search of the strongest one and encounters many different things.  He meets Snow and finds out that Sun is stronger than Snow, so Sun must be the strongest.  But wait, there is something stronger than Sun.  In the end they find out that the little red ant colony is stronger than the Big Rock they live in, because they carry little pieces of the Big Rock away.  What did Little Red Ant find out?  Well, he found out that even though the little red ants are small, in some ways they are the strongest of all.

After reading this story several times, try-outs were held for the role of Little Red Ant.  Then the students were assigned parts in the play and practices were held.  They also colored a character piece to represent their role in the play.  After practicing several times, the second grade classes each took a turn performing for another second grade class.  All the students did an excellent job, and much fun was had by all!
