There are almost seven thousand children in Nebraska that are in the foster care system. These children are often without what we would consider as basic “necessities”, besides food and shelter, such as clothing and hygiene products. Luckily, there are many organizations that are out to help these children live within comfortable means, however, these organizations can’t always provide everything on their own. That’s why this year's District 1 FCCLA has decided to reach out to a foster care center in Nebraska, The Nebraska Children’s Home Society, and find out what children in our communities need, and combat their deficiencies with a project we named Helping Hands. Us members in FCCLA need help to get these donation items from people in our collective communities, and to do this we have decided we will set out donation boxes within our school, as well as setting one out at home football games starting Friday, September 14th. We ask that you good-hearted members of our school/communities to donate items to our drive. Items such as basic hygiene products, backpacks, baby clothes, diapers, gloves, coats, etc. These items, if clothing or bags, should be new, or gently used, and otherwise (hygiene products, diapers) brand new. This is an amazing opportunity for us to have a positive impact on many young people's lives, no matter how small it may be. We are all extremely grateful to be able to take part in such an impactful project and hope any contributing donators realize how truly significant this is for not only participants but also the recipients of our donations. We thank you beforehand for any contributions you may make and hope for many donations throughout our project. We will post a district outcome from this project at the end, so stay tuned and be prepared to see our donation boxes at football games.
