Nebraska Mathematics Readiness Project
A new class is taking the place of one of Mr. Jensen’s math classes. It is the Nebraska Math Readiness Project. The class was started in cooperation with the 5 community colleges and local school districts. They want to help increase the number of students who are college-ready upon graduation. The purpose of NMRP is to provide a bridge to success for the high school senior who need to improve their math skills before entering and completing a college-level math course.
This course is eligible to seniors with an ACT Math score between 13 to 16. The ACT exam was chosen for this project due to all high school juniors having to take this test for the state exam. The course has two levels: Level I which is a review of Pre-Algebra, and Level II which is a review of Algebra 1.
The course meets daily, and the students work at their own pace. They have benchmarks to meet each week, and the students are made aware of where they should be at weeks end. The course uses MyLabPlus website. All the assignments, tests, and quizzes are online. Besides Mr. Jensen, the class has a para and a college liaison who comes out from Southeast Community College three times a year to evaluate how the students are doing in meeting the requirements.
