District OR1 Physical Education

District OR-1 Jr & Sr High Physical Education

District OR-1 Jr & Sr High Physical Education classes are given semester tests to assess student’s health and fitness levels.  These tests use a complete battery of health-related fitness items that are scored using criterion-referenced standards that are age and gender specific and are established based upon how fit children need to be for good health. The use of health-related criteria helps to minimize comparisons between children and to emphasize personal fitness rather than goals based on performance.  The test administered is called the Fitnessgram.  This test provides a comprehensive health-related fitness and activity assessment reporting system that allows the teacher to produce individualized student reports for the teacher, parents and students to see.  Another unique feature of this test is the figuring of each student’s Body Mass Index.  Body Mass Index (BMI) determines whether a student is overweight or is at risk for becoming overweight and is based on age, gender, height, and weight.  Schools and parents play an important and unique role in providing an environment where children can learn and practice positive healthy behaviors.  Stay active and eat right.
