No Cell Phones. No Problem.
We did a little creative review.
I love to welcome back students in non-conventional ways. I'm sure students get tired of visiting about their summers in each class on the first day, so I try choose a different direction each year. As many know, we have eliminated cell phones as school and the interruptions they can cause. Therefore, I just could not resist. We made our own cell phones! Yes, they were made of paper, but cell phones are something students love to communicate with. Students cut out cell phones and created selfies, responding to pretend text messages in Spanish on additional pages.
It's true; I snuck in review. There were basic questions reflecting on how they were doing and what their favorite things were. I included a question about their summers and what they did. While higher levels of Spanish responded in the language, lower level class responded in English. Many enjoyed looking at others, while I enjoyed learning about their summers and the things they enjoy. Plus, their selfies greeted me each day and doesn't love that.
