Superintendent of Schools
Welcome to the Palmyra District OR-1 School district web site and the 2016-2017 school year. I am beginning my 31st year in Education having served as the Superintendent and K-12 Principal in Chambers from 2005-2010. Prior to that time I spent 19 years at Sutton as a Social Studies teacher and coach.
The current school year will be exciting as we resume a series of initiatives such as the implementation of construction projects on both campuses and the 1:1 initiative update for grades 7-12, as well as a continuation of full implementation of a K-8 Second Step curriculum. We will continue to develop the instructional applications offered to us as we continue our trek towards 21st century learning goals. The district will maintain an emphasis on a character education initiative aimed at providing our students with specific information focusing on life skills including, but not limited to, self-confidence/self-respect, respect for others/compassion, responsibility/no excuses as well as communication skills, perseverance/resilience, positive attitude, resourcefulness and goal setting. With fourteen trained 8 To Great staff we are well on our way to continuing an outstanding advisory program with the lowest possible student/teacher ratio.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with a Board of Education, Administrative Team and Staff that maintains a “Commitment to Excellence”. I encourage you to follow us on Twitter and via our District OR-1 mobile application.
Best wishes for a productive and rewarding year. GO PANTHERS!

My wife Jen is also an educator with a background in early childhood special education and elementary education. She has recently completed a Masters program with a media endorsement from the University of Nebraska Kearney. We have three children who are currently in the workforce. Jon has completed a respiratory therapist program and resides in Denver. Our oldest daughter, Mallary, is working in an early childhood program in Omaha. Sean, our youngest son, is working in Omaha and going to school via the National Guard with an interest in heating and air. All three of my oldest children have served in the Air Force Reserve or National Guard. We also have a 12-year-old daughter, Ryann, who will enter grade 6 this fall. We are enjoying our grandchildren Aiden, 8. Harper, 5 and Madden 3 all of whom reside within short drive from our home.
