James La Pointe
School Psychologist/Counselor
Hello, my name is James La Pointe. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree-Teachers College (1975), Master of Arts Degree in Counseling (1976) and Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology (1994) all from the University of Nebraska. I have been a School Psychologist for the past 16 years and find this to be my most rewarding endeavor as an educator. I started with the Lincoln Public Schools for 24.5 years, ESU 2 in Fremont for 4.5 years and 3 years in Phoenix, AZ.
Now it is a pleasure to work with the Bennet/Palmyra Schools as a School Psychologist for K-12 and providing counseling to the Elementary students in Bennet.
My ethnic background is Native American (Ponca Tribe of Nebraska) and I am presently in my third term of office as a Tribal Council Member representing District 3 (Lincoln). I enjoy and find it very rewarding to be a part of the government of the Ponca Nation; using my knowledge to assist members of our Tribe become more successful and improve their lives. My grandfather (Otto B. Knudsen) was the last person to be made a Chief in our Tribe under our old Traditional ways.
I have one son Otto J. La Pointe who is married to Naeko from Mito, Japan. They have one son, Rio (3 years) and one girl, Saya (17 months). We have interesting and exciting traditions in our multicultural family that enriches all our lives.
Below is a link to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska that includes links to several Native American web sites as well. I thought this might give knowledge to parents and staff so that all can see that the Ponca people live and flourish in Nebraska and America today.
Aho!
