It’s already snowing in Miss Winter’s 3rd grade classroom!
We have
been studying subjects and predicates in Language. The student’s
have learned that the subject is the who or the what in the
sentence and the predicate is what the who or the what is doing in
the sentence. We are really focusing on writing good sentences in
3rd grade. Our definition of a good sentence is to make sure it has
a capital letter, a subject, a predicate, and the correct ending
mark.
To make writing a little more fun, we
played a game called “snowball”. The students were to write one
“good” sentence on their piece of paper. After everyone wrote one
sentence, I said, “snowball”. The students crumbled up their piece
of paper and threw them like snowballs. When I said, “stop” the
students were to find a snowball. They had to underline the subject
and circle the predicate. Then they had to write the next good
sentence and we would snowball again. The students enjoyed this fun
way to learn subjects and predicates.
