First graders playing a math game to review addition and subtraction.
|
by Becky Hall & Yvonne Meyer
January 06, 2010
First graders have been busy learning and practicing their addition and subtraction facts. We do this many ways! Practicing flash cards, playing games, problem solving and daily mad minutes tests are a few of the ways these skills are reinforced. Both horizontal and vertical number sentences have been used in our lessons. Math vocabulary includes words like sum, difference, missing addend, related facts and fact families.
Students are encouraged to practice flash cards at home, in the car and at Grandma's. Knowing the basic addition and subtraction facts are the foundation for math concepts to come!
