*************UPDATE: Mask Requirements Remain the Same: All K-12 Students and Adults MUST Wear Masks.************
Hello again parents and guardians,
I just wanted to send out another community update before we get to the end of the week.
Kudos:
-
I would like to personally thank all of you again for your continued support of our students and our staff during this most unprecedented time. I am not sure where the time has gone, but we are now through the end of the first quarter.
-
Being able to continue “in person” learning has been a blessing and I hope that we will continue to be able to stay the course during the winter months, but we are also prepared that if we need to go to “remote” learning for all; we can do that in an effective and efficient manner.
-
In terms of fighting the spread of the virus, I am confident that our students and staff will continue to do their best to follow the protocols that keep them safe in school. Especially during these winter months, it will be imperative that we work together (both inside and outside of school) to mitigate the effects and community spread of the virus.
COVID Case District Update:
-
I am happy to report that this week we have not had any new confirmed positive COVID cases in our district. That is great news, but please understand that this number can change at any moment.
-
Updated District Numbers as of 10.22.2020:
-
12 positive staff cases (split evenly between buildings) since the beginning of school in August.
-
20 positive student cases (14 HS / 6 Elem) since the beginning of school in August.
-
-
Numbers across the state continue to rise and Otoe and Lancaster county remain in an Orange risk dial status.
-
Here is a link for information for Lancaster County.
-
Here is a link for information for the Southeast District Health Department.
-
-
I also wanted to provide a quick summary of information that came from the Governor this week:
-
Avoid the Three Cs:
-
-
-
-
Crowded places: Avoid gathering in groups where you can’t maintain six-feet distance from others.
-
Close contacts: Wear a mask or maintain six-feet distance when you’re with people outside of your household.
-
Confined spaces: Avoid enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.
-
-
Remember to also practice these safety tips to help slow the spread of the virus:
-
Bump elbows rather than shake hands
-
Stay home if you are sick
-
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
-
Do not greet people with hugs or kisses
-
Wash hands often to protect yourself from germs
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
-
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and then throw the tissue into the trash
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
-
Stay up-to-date on information sent out by your local public health department.
No School” Reminder:
-
Just a reminder that there is “no school” for students or staff on Friday, October 23rd. Please enjoy the extra day this weekend and although there won’t be any fans at the game on Saturday, I hope that having Husker football (if they play well) helps to provide a brief respite from Coronavirus overload.
Upcoming Activities:
-
Our volleyball team will host district competition here on Monday night (10/26). Games will be at 4:30, 6:00, and 7:30 p.m. Because we are the top seed in the district, we will be playing in the late (7:30 p.m) game.
-
If you are planning to come to the game on Monday, please understand that the new Directed Health Measure now restricts indoor gatherings to 50%.
-
In order to comply with the new DHM, we will be limiting spectator attendance, but the contest will be available through STRIV. More information about attendance guidelines will be forthcoming in the next few days.
-
Thank you for helping us limit the spread of the virus at school activities and for cheering on our beloved Panthers!
Thanks again for your support of our students and staff and have a safe weekend,
Mike
