Mr. Lahmon receiving ASCA certification

Bennet Elementary School is proud to celebrate School Counselor Austin Lahmon, who has earned the prestigious ASCA-Certified School Counselor (ACSC®) credential through the American School Counselor Association.

The ACSC designation is a national certification that recognizes school counselors who demonstrate excellence in developing and implementing comprehensive, data-informed counseling programs that support students academically, socially, and emotionally. To earn the credential, counselors complete a rigorous process that includes passing a national examination and submitting an extensive professional portfolio demonstrating the positive impact of their work on students. He is the first Nebraska counselor to receive the credential!

While this certification is a tremendous professional accomplishment, anyone who knows Mr. Lahmon understands that the title simply reflects what our students experience every day.

Mr. Lahmon is more than a school counselor—he is a trusted adult, a listening ear, and one of the biggest champions our students have. Whether he’s greeting students before school, checking in with a child who needs encouragement, celebrating successes, or helping families navigate difficult seasons, he consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels seen, valued, and supported.

Perhaps no recognition speaks louder than the one created by our own families. After learning of his certification, a Bennet Elementary parent surprised Mr. Lahmon by placing a congratulatory banner in his front yard, inviting students and families to stop by and sign it with messages of appreciation. The banner quickly filled with signatures, kind words, and heartfelt thank-yous—a testament to the lasting impact he has made on countless children and families throughout our district.

National certifications recognize professional excellence, but the greatest measure of a school counselor’s success is the difference they make in the lives of students. Every day, Mr. Lahmon exemplifies what it means to care deeply for children and to help them grow into confident, resilient, and successful young people.

Congratulations, Mr. Lahmon, on this well-deserved honor. Bennet Elementary—and our entire district—is fortunate to have you serving our students. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment to every child make a difference each and every day.
