The Yearbook and So Much More

We’re Growing and We Need You

Next year students will have the opportunity to explore live video production, publication, and social media through a new course. Those taking Yearbook/Digital Arts (Communications and media) will be given the opportunity to be involved in creating the school yearbook, as well as creating articles for the school website to update patrons on school celebrations, sports and so much more.  The fun won’t stop there because students will also be producing live broadcasts of local games and concerts, as well as using the new commons television screens to communicate breakfast and lunch menus, upcoming games and events, meetings and competitions.

Like this year, our yearly yearbook will be produced by the student body.  To produce a quality and fun yearbook, it takes creative heads, the ability to snap a photograph, and a detailed eye.  Students choose their pages and what their spreads should look like, as well as the pages they want to tackle.  We are currently wrapping up Spring sports pages, prom, FFA, FCCLA, NHS, and Student Council.  This year’s yearbook will be completed at the end of May with copies being available for pick up in August.  Look to purchase these soon.

This spring we have also started using software to control messages that scroll across on the commons’ televisions.  This is quite new to us, so with the help of Mr. Johnson’s daily meme and Michael Bogart’s hard work, we have managed to share up-coming events, lunch and breakfast menus, and a little humor.  Our hope is to grow this to include student accolades, yearbook photos from current events, and so much more.

In addition to these tasks, we will be live streaming sporting events, as well as concerts.  This will require students to master some camera work to ensure that patrons get the opportunity to see their favorite player or performer. If you are interested in film production, this is for you and we will all get to learn together.  This might mean some green screen practice and production too!

While we know that student schedules fill up fast, having extra members, hands, and talent outside of the class is never a problem.  For this reason, the school is also starting a club.  Can’t squeeze in another class, but want to get involved and check it out?  We want to ensure that students have an opportunity to explore more technology while becoming part of the course outside of the school day.

Interested students can sign up for this communications and media class or club by contacting Ms. Gill.  It’s that easy!
