Superintendent Update for 10-15-2020

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to provide a quick update on our current district positive COVID case numbers.

Since Monday, we have not had any more confirmed positive student cases at the high school.
We have had two more confirmed positive student cases at Bennet Elementary.
We have also not had any more confirmed positive staff cases this week and all of our staff have returned from quarantine.

Our district COVID numbers (confirmed positive cases) as of the end of the day today (10/15) are:
  • 12 positive staff cases (split evenly between buildings) since the beginning of school in  August.
  • 20 positive student cases (14 HS / 6 Elem) since the beginning of school in August.
Staff and students impacted by these cases have been asked to quarantine or self-monitor in accordance with local health department recommendations.

These numbers are trending down for the week and that is a positive sign, but we must continue to remain vigilant with wearing our masks, maintaining good social distances whenever possible, consistently practicing good hygiene habits like hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and cleaning and sanitizing our work and home areas on a regular basis.

Just an FYI:
  • The Lancaster County Risk Dial remains at Orange and the Otoe County Risk Dial is also at the Orange Level. As long as we remain in the Orange levels, we will try and continue to have in-person student learning and we will continue to enhance our safety protocols at school and activities to mitigate the spread of the virus.
If the risk dials go to a RED Level status, we may need to go to a remote learning environment for students based on the number of cases in our district. This could be a temporary or a long term situation depending on the specifics of the situation. We will be in contact if that happens so that families can prepare for these possible changes.

Thanks and have a safe rest of your night!

Mike
