Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge

On Tuesday, November 13, the PHS Math and Business Department partnered up to give four PHS students the chance to experience the Wall Street trading floor. Marissa Waltke, Koby Dillon, Kyra Palm, and Jenna Wilen represented Palmyra High School at the 2018 Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge at the University of Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Each team received $1 million to invest in fictitious stocks. Throughout the 60-turn trading period, news from the financial markets challenged teams to analyze and decide what actions they should take. This event simulates 1-2 years of the market so each 80 second turn resembles about 2 weeks of real time. The team with the highest return at the end of the 60 turns was deemed the winner. PHS was able to finish 31st out of 51 teams finishing with a net worth of $1,156,880 and a return on investment of 15.69%. For Palmyra’s first ever Stock Market Challenge, Mr. Maas and I were very pleased with the results and we look forward to next year’s Challenge.

We would like to give a special thanks to First Nebraska Bank for sponsoring Palmyra in the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge.
