Hello my name is Jen Hanger. I am the technology teacher and Second Step teacher at Bennet Elementary. 2011 was my official first year teaching and getting back into the classroom. I love showing the kids new and fun technology. I also enjoy teaching programming and code to our 5th and 6th grade students. Kids are not afraid of technology and are eager to learn all they can! I also enjoy talking to kids about becoming respectful and responsible young people in 2nd Step.
Before coming to Bennet our family lived in Chambers Nebraska, in the eastern Sand Hills. During those 5 years I was a stay-at-home mom, substitute teacher and college student. I was able to stay home with our daughter Ryann and still manage to get a day in a week working in the area schools. I was also able to complete my Master Degree in Instructional Technology and I am currently finishing my Computer Science endorsement K-12th grade. Prior to Chambers we lived in Sutton. I worked at the Sutton Elementary School as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher for 10 years.
The move to the Bennet/Palmyra area has been a good one for Rob, Ryann and I. Ryann is attending PHS and is in 9th grade. At home we enjoy spending time as a family with our two dogs Simba and Annie our cat Duchess and a hamster Tiger Lilly. We are also closer to our families and we love the Lincoln area and all it has to offer. The friendliness of the people has helped us feel at home. I feel fortunate to get back into the classroom full time. I have missed having a class and building relationships with my fellow coworkers. I look forward to working with the wonderful families we have in the District OR 1 school system.
