Note on Returning to School

District Plans to Return on Schedule

Good evening Panther families,

My name is Michael Hart, and I am the new District OR1 Superintendent. I am excited to join the district, and I look forward to getting to know our students and families. As we continue to deal with the ever-changing dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic, I just wanted to reach out to all of you to let you know our district “Return to School” planning committee has been meeting and are continuing the process of developing a comprehensive “return to school” plan that effectively meets the needs of our students and families.

I greatly appreciate the work of the members on this planning team, and I am confident that the final plan (although not fully developed at this point) will be one that prioritizes student, staff, and community safety. The plan will also focus on maximizing student learning in a variety of school scenarios (digital, hybrid, in-person, etc.).

In order to keep you as updated as possible, here are a few details from our planning to this point:

  • Starting of School:
    • Currently, we are planning to return to school in person according to our regular 2020/2021 school calendar. Please understand that this could change according to the directed health measures in place as we get closer to the start of school, but for now we are planning on Thursday, August 13th as the first day for all students.
  • Masks:
    • Although we will adjust according to the current directed health measures in place at the time we start school, we are planning on having masks available for all staff and students. We will utilize our PPE equipment according to what is reasonable and appropriate for our staff and  students to remain safe.
  • Upcoming Events:
    • We are planning on hosting our 6th to 7th Grade Student Transition on Wednesday, July 29th from 6-7 p.m at the high school. Please note that attendance from family members may be limited. Please continue to monitor our school website and social media outlets for more updates.
  • We are also planning on having our Kindergarten Open House on Wednesday, August, 5th. There will be two time slots available that night to help facilitate social distancing. The first session will be from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and the second session will be from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. More specific details will be forthcoming in the next week or so.

Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we work through navigating these uncharted waters. When our plan is ready to be finalized, we will be in contact with another update.

Stay safe and have a great rest of your night

Mike
