Community Update for Monday, February 15th, 2021

Good evening Panther families,

Here is the community update for this week.

First of all, thank you for your patience with this update as we have been moving to a bi-weekly update as the number of COVID cases in the area have continued to decrease. Additionally, due to our “no-school” day on Friday and the impact on school operations from the severe weather we are currently experiencing, we wanted to update you on not just our current district COVID numbers, but also the district schedule for the rest of this week and the beginning of next week.

Winter Weather and District Schedule Update:

  • Due to the extension of extremely cold temperatures and historically low wind chills forecasted again for the morning, we will have another “no-school day for students” tomorrow (Tuesday, February 16th).

  • Because we also want to try and balance out some of the days our students are missing school due to unexpected weather patterns, we are also changing Monday’s scheduled day off for students (February 22nd) into a full day of school for students.

  • I understand that this is a change with not a lot of advance notice, so please know that we will accommodate students and families that were scheduled to be out of town that day or have events scheduled (dentist’s appointments, etc.) that are out of their control or they simply cannot change.

  • If your child is not able to be at school on Monday, February 22nd, please let your school office know as soon as possible so that they help you with missing work, etc.

COVID Update:

  • Including our new cases, here are the updated numbers for our district as of 2.15.2021.

    • 29 positive staff cases (12 HS/ 17 Elementary) since the beginning of school in August.

    • 43 positive student cases (23 HS / 20 Elementary) since the beginning of school in August.

      • Please note: We have had three additional student cases (1 HS/ 2 Elementary) these past two weeks.

  • Total positive COVID cases for the district since the beginning of school in August is now at 72.

  • Current public health information for Otoe and Lancaster Counties is listed below:

  • Students or staff impacted by positive COVID cases will continue to quarantine or self-monitor for symptoms in alignment with local health department and district protocols.

  • Thanks to all of you for continuing to support our safety protocols, thank you for wearing your masks, thank you for keeping your children home if they are sick, and thank you for keeping student learning a priority.

Updated Activity Protocols:

  • The latest NSAA update (effective Friday, February 12th) contains the following information:

    • As the winter regular season draws to a close, the NSAA calls upon member schools to host sub-districts and districts for the NSAA. In most activities, the team with the highest seed earns the right to host these events. In other activities, member schools volunteer to host. The health and safety of students, staff, and local communities remain the priority of the NSAA.

The NSAA is implementing the following requirements for host schools of all NSAA winter sub-district and district

contests:

  • Active participants are permitted to wear face coverings during competition, but not required.

  • Coaches and non-active participants are required to wear face coverings.

  • Spectators are required to wear face coverings at all times.

  • Attendance is restricted to 75% of occupancy unless local health departments or host schools are more restrictive.

  • The host school may establish additional requirements. Any additional requirements implemented by the

host school must be the same for all participants, officials, and spectators. All participating schools and spectators are expected to adhere to these requirements.

  • In addition, to advance in the winter postseason a team/individual must participate in their state qualifying

contest(s).

  • If an NSAA member school is unable to participate due to COVID-19, sub-district, district final and

state championship contests will not be postponed or canceled.
