Superintendent Update for 06/16/2022

Panther Families and Community Patrons,

The District OR-1 (Palmyra-Bennet) Board of Education passed a resolution for a special election scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, to issue a bond not to exceed $22,000,000 (Twenty-Two Million Dollars) to provide funds to construct additions and renovations at Bennet Elementary School and Palmyra Jr./Sr. High School.  

Copies of the bond resolution have been filed with the Otoe and Lancaster County Election Commissioners and the document is now available for review on our school website at www.districtor1.org

A summary of the regular board meeting held on Monday, June 13th is also available for review on our district website at www.districtor1.org

Please note: The special election will be completed by mail. 

  • Ballots will be mailed by the Election Commissioner on Monday, July 18th, 2022.

  • All ballots must be in the possession of the Election Commissioner no later than 5:00 pm on (Election Day) August 9, 2022.

DISTRICT OR-1 BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATE
SUMMARY OF MONDAY, JUNE 13, 2022 MEETING


 Approved a resolution for a special bond election to be held on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022. The bond resolution request (not to exceed $22 million dollars) is to increase classroom, kitchen, office, and multi-purpose activity space at Bennet Elementary School and increase classroom, office, and multi-purpose activity space and expand Career Technical Education opportunities at Palmyra High School. The bond resolution is available to review on our school website at www.districtor1.org. Specific information on both building expansion projects is also available for review on our school website at www.districtor1.org.


 Approved a teaching contract for Mr. Michael Jorgenson as the Industrial Technology Teacher at Palmyra High School for the 2022-23 school year.


 Provided an update on the district Activities Committee. This committee will collaborate to provide information and analyze relevant student data for consideration of future activity expansion at the high school. This committee will begin meeting this summer.


 Provided an update on student enrollment for the upcoming school year. Current total district student enrollment projections for the 2022-2023 school year is 705 students. This is a 40 student increase from last school year.


 Discussed strategic planning and prioritization of identified “guiding principles” contained within the plan. These areas include: Culture and Connectedness, Student Learning Opportunities, Facilities, Personnel Effectiveness and Staffing, and Board Governance. The Strategic Planning process has been coordinated with representatives from the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB).


 Approved student handbooks for the elementary and preschool, reviewed student fees and other policies, and approved student meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year.
